My name is Marc Alfonso. I live in what
is supposedly "The Sunshine State" but with the way it rains around here, I would call that false advertisement. I just moved
back home after serving four years in the military. I still haven't decided if it was the best thing I've ever done or just
a big waste of time. Whatever it was, I definitely consider it an experience. I got to meet a lot of different people with
all sorts of interesting backgrounds and others who had the personailty of a door knob. I even got to go to Kuwait and fight
in the good war. Okay, so I actually didnt get to fight but I did the next best thing, I got to ride a camel. (You know you're
so jealous right now!) I'm always looking for a challenge which brings me to this project. I will attempt to pose as a homeless
person for the next 168 hours. An entire week.
From July 29 - Aug 5th, I will be living on the streets of Ft. Lauderdale, Fl. I will be accompanied by a camera, a pen,
a journal and $20. No toiletries or food. I will only be wearing the clothes on my back. Some may argue that this is plain
dumb but it should be quite interesting to experience life on the streets and to truly experience first hand what it feels
like to feel totally hopeless. By not knowing what to eat or where to sleep, it will be an imitation of the homeless life.
A surviving struggle from one day to the next. The one thing to be certain of, is my journey home. To make it home, I must
find safe places for shelter and access to basic daily needs. It's my choice to make this experience as genuine as possible.
In my plans, rules are to be adhered to.

1 - No acceptance of food, money or anything else for that matter from anyone who visits me.
2 - A cell phone will be used solely for emergency purposes only. i.e. Physical bodily harm.
3 -No transportation will be taken. Everywhere travelled to, will be reached by foot.
4 - Locations will change daily.
5- Must spend one night in a homeless
shelter.
I will start out on Broward Blvd.
and end on South Park Road.
